A pattern-reasoning puzzle in the spirit of the picture puzzles in IQ tests, except you never pick from options: you build the answer yourself. Every tile has several attributes (shape from triangle to hexagon, colour, number of dots, a pointer and a fill style), and each attribute follows its own rule: one more dot each tile, a pointer turning 90° each step, two colours taking turns, or every row of a 3×3 grid using the same three shapes once each.
Once you see the rules, dial in each attribute of the missing tile with − / + in the forge below. The ? tile shows what you are building as you go, and "Place" checks it. A wrong tile only tells you which attributes are still off; nothing is lost and the puzzle carries on.
There are 4 chapters and 24 levels: rows of five tiles first, then turning pointers and three-step cycles, then 3×3 grids, and finally master grids where the gap can be anywhere and fill styles and "dots add up" rules join in. Every puzzle is generated by the game and checked so that every reasonable rule that fits the visible tiles predicts the same answer, so the answer is always unique. Each chapter also has endless random practice.
How to play
- Tap "Play", or pick a chapter and level from "Levels". The first time you open a chapter, a short note explains the new kind of rule.
- Study the complete tiles one attribute at a time (shape, colour, dots, pointer, fill) and find each one's rule. Read rows of tiles left to right; read grids along rows and columns.
- In the forge below, use − / + to set each attribute. The forge starts as a copy of the tile next to the gap, and the ? tile shows your build live. When it looks right, tap "Place".
- If it is wrong, the attributes that are off get an orange outline: change them and place again. Stuck? "Hint" sets one attribute for you and explains its rule in one sentence, and the book button lists every kind of rule.
- Solve it first time without hints for 3 stars. Clearing 4 levels of a chapter opens the next one, and every chapter has "Random practice".
Controls
- Phone / tablet: tap − / + on either side of each attribute in the forge (↺ / ↻ for the pointer), or tap the middle icon to step forward, then tap "Place".
- Mouse: click the same buttons. The ? tile always shows the tile you are building.
- Keyboard: ↑↓ (or W/S) choose an attribute, ←→ (or A/D) change it, 1–5 jump to an attribute, Enter places; H hint, R reset, Esc menu, M mute. On the level screen, ← → change chapter and 1–6 pick a level.
For parents
- Made mainly for ages 13 and up, and 9–12-year-olds can ease in through Chapter 1. The puzzles are close to figural reasoning tests such as Raven's matrices. They train breaking something complicated into independent attributes, and inducing a rule from examples and then applying it. Because the answer has to be built, there are no options to eliminate or guess between.
- There is no timer, no losing and no lives. A wrong tile only marks which attributes are off, reset and hints are always there, and a hint states the rule in one sentence so players learn why. Every puzzle has exactly one answer. The content is just geometric shapes in soft colours, with no violence, scary content or gambling.
- No chat, in-app purchases, ads, outbound links or online leaderboards, and no personal details are ever asked for. Stars and the mute setting are stored only in this device's browser, and the game also works offline.
